"Local Color" review by J.M. Berry - March 23, 2007

CD Review 3/15/07 in Sonoma Sun: “Local Color” from Solid Air. Sam Page and Allegra Broughton have been doing their act for over 10 years, regularly appearing at Murphy’s. Although the CD was released in 2004, it just made its way into my hands and I’ve had trouble keeping it out of my CD player. The 12-tune disc is mostly original music with a couple classy covers. I guess I would have to put them in the folk rock genre but there’s more to the tunes than that. Allegra’s voice is very versatile, giving me a Linda Ronstadt feel but she also has a Bonnie Raitt and even a Nina Gerber thing goin’. The vocal harmonies are nice and the musicians they lined up for this disc show just how much they’ve been around the scene. Norton Buffalo, Kendrick Freeman, John Salz and even the late Vince Welnick to name a few. The CD is available on iTunes.

Reviewer J. M. Berry is host of 91.3 KSVY Sonoma radio’s Sonoma Valley Music Scene heard Thursday nights from 8-10. He can be reached at jmberry@ksvy.org

Sweethearts of the Radio Show - February 11, 2007

Rancho All-Stars Extravaganza - November 4, 2006

As some of you may know, Sam plays bass with the Rancho All-Stars, house band of the Marin County (California) nightclub Rancho Nicasio. They play a great variety of highly danceable originals and covers in the blues/soul/r'n'B tradition, and the regular line-up includes Mike Duke (Delbert McClinton), Angela Strehli, & Billy Lewis (Roy Rogers). They usually feature a special guest, and last night's was the great guitarist/singer David Jenkins (Pablo Cruise, Southern Pacific). Then Elvin Bishop sat in for a stellar set, blues crooner Les Bailey sang a few, saxophonist Rita Thies played all night, and I got to sing with Angela on a couple of songs. Wow - what a night. You never know who will show up at the Rancho!

Show at Soho 10/24 - October 25, 2006

Hey what fun - what started out as a duo concert morphed into a full folk-rock band show in a mere matter of hours. Rick (drums) called the day of the show to say "Hey, can Steve (guitar) and I crash your gig tonight?", and what a gas it was. We've all known clubowner Jay for ages, are are sad to see him close up shop. Also great to see our longtime fan and songwriting pal Dave Monterey, too.

New album started - October 14, 2006

We have just recorded basic tracks for 10 new songs at Harry Gale's Route 44 Studios in Sebastopol, California.
